Independence Tour 2009-2010
The ultimate goal for any coach in youth sports should be to develop each player to their maximum potential. Once this goal is achieved any coach should want to help their player to showcase their skills. The staff at Breakaway is constantly working on different ideas to promote the team and it's players, so beginning this fall Breakaway will not be a part of any organized league. Instead they will be traveling throughout California to meet college coaches, visit campuses, and play exhibition matches.
These situations are purposely set up to let players prove themselves to the college coaches. In some cases, Breakaway will even run through training sessions instead of games to show a different part of their individual abilities. The staff believes that their responsibility is to make sure these girls get as great of an opportunity in front of the college coaches as possible. Playing in big tournaments and leagues can definitely get you a certain amount of exposure but what they cannot get you is one on one time with coaches in a comfortable environment, familiarity with campus life, and most important knowledge of the school that only a college coach can provide.
The girls on Breakaway will see all different types of schools including Div. 1, Div. 2, and NAIA campuses. There are different rules and regulations when it comes to player to coach involvement so it will be a requirement for Breakaway to learn NCAA and NAIA guidelines. Players will also be required to learn GPA and SAT/ACT requirements along with the majors taught at each college visited. Ideally before it becomes time for them to make their choices each Breakaway player will be experienced enough to know where they want to spend their college life.
