Baby Breakaway 2010-2011

Baby Breakaway has had a very productive first season. They finished in 3rd place in CSL which was respectable considering the style of play that they are using. This possession based style puts the Breakaway players under extreme pressure to move the ball around the field with a high level of sophistication forcing them to learn creative ways of keeping the ball from the other team.
Once players learn how to move the ball creatively, they are able to keep it for longer periods of time which makes the defenders have to chase the ball around the field. The more that Breakaway makes the teams chase the more holes there are to attack into letting the girls maneuver to goal with ease. However this creative style also has the girls of Breakaway stuck in some very difficult situations in every game. If the girls do not make the correct decisions at these times the team is extremely vulnerable thus giving up easy goals to the opponent.
Why play this way then? The staff at Breakaway believes in learning as much technique and tact at this young age. The staff also believes that forcing players to deal with tough situations at this age makes them more creative and less afraid to make mistakes. Too many people care about wins and losses instead of pure development. Wins will come if the girls are developed the right way and the players/parents at Breakaway have supported this theory.
